LETTERPRESS CHRISTMAS CARDS ~ OLD ENGLISH

Letterpress Christmas cards printed by hand, the traditional way.
I printed this set of cards using lead type on my vintage printing press.

This collection came about when I acquire a very special tray of type. I don’t know the name of the typeface, but it has a lovely Old English style to it and I thought it was perfect for Yuletide and Christmas. It was harder to print with than other type faces I have, but it printed very well with some extra work.
The type must have been cast before the height was standardised to .918 of an inch, it is much less. As well as that, the type is very worn down, it must have had a lot of use, but with extra of work I was able to make a good print. I have combined these with three decorative cards, still using vintage type, and hot foiled the golden star.

These are small cards 9.5cm / just under 4 inches.
Printed onto a nice white, heavyweight card.
Blank inside and with a recycled envelope.
Printed with ink that will not fade, so suitable for framing.
